What's Happened So Far...
Anchor Gaslamp Started as the dream of two young ministers who realized that some people just weren't being reached by institutionalized churches. They had a lot of friends who had left church, and many others who were interested in the teachings of Jesus & even Christian spirituality, that would never step foot into a regular church. Something had to change.
They started their first missional community in 2007. During this time the group met in the Downtown San Diego area, in locations which varied from restaurants to hotels to coffee houses & pubs until its first Sunday Gathering in a nightclub on Easter Sunday, 2008.
The community that made up Anchor Gaslamp determined immediately that they did not want to go about church as usual. They wanted to let their faith translate into action. They resolved to never have regular weekly services or let those services be a production, but instead, to emphasize living a transformational lifestyle in the context of community. Sunday's were casual, authentic, and organic.
Instead of emphasizing large services the group began to emphasize change, first in themselves, then in the surrounding communities. incredible things started to happen...
Since that time Anchor Gaslamp has steadily grown into a loving community that is motivated by living out the gospel message and watching it slowly change their city for the better. You'll find them in various locations throughout the week, meeting in public, laughing & loving one another, using their hands to work change in the lives of homeless teens & orphans, raising awareness of world causes, and being the church.
